Pieter Kroese, Amsterdam, Longcase Clock

The Pieter Kroese, Amsterdam, Longcase clock conservation project

The Pieter Kroese, Amsterdam, Longcase clock was badly damaged in a fire prior to its recent sale in an auction in the UK in late 2013.

The buyer was a Dublin-based connoisseur and the conservation work will be undertaken by Nigel Barnes at www.oldclocks.ie with the help of a couple of undergraduates from the Finnish University of Applied Science at Kouvola.

The clock arrived in Dublin in  two large boxes  and was brought to Nigel’s workshop in mid-February.

The items were removed from the packaging and photographed over the next few days: The students commenced the conservation project on 21st March.

The hood is is most fire-damaged part while the base has suffered only superficial scorching.

If I had thought of it, you could have given me a hand to get it out of the boxes and photograph it yesterday
